- : Amiga needs to increase its "Piracy Equilibrium Level". This could
- : be achieved by persuading Amiga pirates all over the world that
- : piracy is a very bad thing to do. A task which is impossible
- : because a) there are too many pirates b) most of them can't be
- : persuaded. (I could elaborate more on that but I think the reasons
- : on this one are obvious.)
-
- I don't think it's the people who are priating the software that
- needto be worked on, I think it's the people who are downloading the piracy.
- However, speaking as an Amiga user, I didn't ever ever use pirated software
- until WaldenSoftware got bought by electronics boutique and stopped selling
- Amiga software.. then all of the local computer shops got rid of their
- inventory.. then psygnosis stopped making amiga games.. then there was a dry
- period (like last year) when all the new games were either AGA or crap. Then
- I turned to dabbling in piracy because #1) no one locally had games and #2)
- there weren't any games good enough for me to want to mail order out, that
- is a hassle.
-
-
-
- However I am fortunate enough to live in the same city as Safe
- HArbor computers, so HOPEFULLY ab3d-2 will be distributed in the U.S> and
- HOPEFULLY I will get my hands on one of the probably ten or so copies that
- safe harbor gets.
-
- By the way I recently looked at the pirarte section on a local BBS
- and they haven't gbotten anything new since like October 1995, so I wouldn't
- say that the pirate scene is "thriving" really... no new games are really
- coming out, maybe.. but they didn't have VK, or gloom, or XTReme racing, or
- ab3d, or worms, or anything... so at least here in the US mebbe piracy IS
- blown out of proportion and lack of distribution can be blamed.
